The good: The Dell UltraSharp U2711 has a super high-resolution screen that shows images in a fidelity we've not seen on a 27-inch display before. Also, the monitor exhibits deep blacks while watching movies, vibrant color in games, has a robust onscreen display, and has a plethora of connection options.
The bad: The Dell UltraSharp U2711 is missing the pivot option that the U2410 had. Also, buyers may find its price prohibitive.
The bottom line: The Dell UltraSharp U2711 is a feature-rich monitor with incredible performance that earns its high price.

Pros: Very good color and light grayscale performance. Lots of A/V ports and multimedia features. Wide viewing angle. High res screen.
Cons: Pricey. Some trouble displaying dark grays. No pivot adjustment.
Bottom Line: The Dell UltraSharp U2711 lives up to its name and displays an excellent array of colors. While it may have some trouble with the dark grays this monitor makes up for that in its numerous features and keeping a good track record, as far as Dell's go.

The Dell UltraSharp U2711 is one of the new breed of high-resolution 16:9 ratio displays to hit the market. With a high-quality IPS panel, a huge 2,560 x 1,440 resolution, and an equally hefty price tag, the U2711 is a high-end monitor to aspire to.
It cuts an impressive dash on any desk. The squared-off figure and brooding dark grey and black exterior look great, and are matched with a sturdy-feeling stand that can tilt, swivel and raise up and down by 90mm.

The screen uses an IPS panel (In-plane Switching) that can display colours better than most others, including Dell’s older 27-inch model the U2709W. In keeping with the current trend, the Dell UltraSharp U2711 features a 16:9 wide-screen aspect ratio for movies, but the big deal here is its screen resolution.
A mind-blowing 2560x1440 pixels packed into 27 inches worth of diagonal screen space ensures that even Full High-Definition Blu-ray movies are just a large window on-screen. This is not a surprise considering it provides an extra 77.8 per cent worth of screen real-estate compared to Full-HD resolution. The monitor also offers every type of display input connector you could think of.

PROS: Excellent performance, none of the viewing angle issues inherent in cheaper LCDs, connectivity options aplenty; matte screen
CONS: Expensive, bulky compared to many other LCDs, screen isn’t LED-backlit
EDITORS' TAKE: For those who can afford its four-digit asking price, Dell’s 27-inch UltraSharp U2711 offers stellar performance, and enough ports to connect just about anything.
